MY STORY

I often tell my friends that I won the parent lottery when I was born. We can’t choose our parents when we enter this world, but in my case, I was fortunate and blessed to be born into a family with the most amazing parents a person could ask for. My incredible parents blessed our home with enough love to last several lifetimes. They also nurtured us with delicious food made from fresh ingredients that we grew in our backyard garden. They were constantly creating their own recipes from scratch. I remember being amazed at how my parents would pick fresh fruit from one of the many fruit trees in our backyard and magically turn it into the best chutneys I have ever tasted. We didn’t have a lot growing up, but somehow my parents always managed to make us feel like we had everything we needed.

My parents shaped me into who I am today, and without them, this company wouldn’t exist.  They taught us how to truly appreciate food and how to live a fulfilling life. Simple concepts like hard work, discipline, learning from your mistakes, the value of money, surrounding yourself with positive people, and giving back to the community were all things that I learned at a very young age. They also instilled a passion for food and cooking in me that will last forever.

After I graduated from university, I spent the 15 years in corporate marketing, working with renowned companies like Pepsi and Kraft. I eventually married my university sweetheart, and we were blessed with identical twin girls. The moment I set my eyes on them, I knew I wanted to be there for every moment, so I decided to stay home with our girls for the next few years, and let’s just say they kept me very busy.

Just before the kids started school, I went on vacation overseas. After a full day of shopping in the markets, I finally decided to stop for a bite to eat.  While walking around deciding on my many options, I came across an older woman who was grilling chicken skewers on a BBQ using what looked like a piece of material right over the grill.  I stopped dead in my tracks.  The food wasn’t sticking, and the mat wasn’t catching fire! How was this possible?

I immediately began imagining all the endless food possibilities that I could make with this mystery material. I knew that I needed to have this material for my own personal use, and I wasn’t leaving the country without it. The language barrier made it difficult to determine exactly what the material was, and so I returned to Canada empty-handed.

I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. The moment I knew I wanted to be one was when I read an article about Phil Knight in a Sports Illustrated magazine many years ago. I was in awe of what he had created. During my many years in the corporate world, I always dreamed of having my own product line. 

After extensive research and dedication, UNSTICK was born, and I embraced the role of a Mompreneur (which, by the way, is the best job I’ve ever had). UNSTICK wasn’t just created to make cooking easier—it was designed to give people back something priceless—time. In a world that’s always moving at full speed, I wanted to offer products that make cleanup a breeze, allowing you to spend less time cleaning and more time doing what you love. I have a passion for cooking, but I absolutely hate the cleanup that follows.  For me, it feels like an overwhelming chore that takes away from the joy of cooking. This frustration inspired me to develop products that not only enhance the cooking experience but also support sustainable living. It was important for me to create solutions that make life simpler while also helping to protect our planet. Every Unstick product sold helps reduce waste, keeping thousands of single-use items out of landfills and encouraging more mindful consumption. With every use, you’re contributing to a more sustainable future.
